Reliance Jio has recently made a software update to Jio Phone to offer Google maps app functionality. A few months back, in February, Jio Phone got the Facebook app support. It is expected that the recently launched Jio Phone 2 will also get Google map app via a software update soon. The users of Jio Phone can check the software update: 2018.628.2 by visiting Settings > Device > Software update and then installing it. The next step is to install the Google map app through Jio store app that will result in a working Google map on the Jio Phone.
Due to display layout limitations of Jio phone that comes with 2.4-inch QVGA and KaiOS OS, there are limited Google Map features available in comparison with Android and iOS platforms. The essential functions of search, location, route directions: two-wheeler, train, bus or walk are provided along with drop-down suggestions for your search query.
To recollect, Jio Phone which was launched and made available in the Indian market last year with an offer of a fully refundable deposit of Rs. 1500 (to be returned in three years) will still continue and available for potential new users. On the other hand, recently launched Jio Phone 2 price in India is set at Rs. 2,999. Jio Phone 2 will be available for purchase from 15th August 2018 onwards. The key highlight of Jio Phone 2 is its offering of Youtube, Facebook, and WhatsApp apps, which will also be available on Jio Phone.
There is also a Monsoon Hungama offer from Jio, wherein feature phone users can bring their existing phones and exchange it with a new Jio phone for Rs 501 starting from July 21st, 2018 onwards. Jio Phone 2 competes with recently released Nokia 8110 4G feature phones sharing similar features (Facebook, Whatsapp, Youtube). However, Nokia 8110 4G is available for purchase at online stores (Amazon, Flipkart) at a price between Rs. 6,800 – 8,000, while Jio phone 2 has a modest price of Rs. 2,999.

On the display front, Jio Phone 2 features a 2.4-inch QVGA display screen. The internal storage of 4 GB is further expandable up to 128 GB via MicroSD card. The Jio Phone 2 runs KaiOS mobile operating system (Linux-based) which has support for 4G LTE with VoLTE support, GPS, and Wi-Fi and also excels in battery management by optimizing energy consumption. Notably, Jio Phone and Nokia 8110 4G (recently released and made available for purchase in India) have the same Kai OS platform.
Jio Phone 2 features dual SIM slots that accept nano SIM type. It is powered by a 2000 mAh battery. On connectivity technologies dimension, Jio Phone 2 supports Wi-Fi, GPS, NFC, Bluetooth, FM Radio, and VoWiFi. A loud mono speaker defines the audio capabilities.
