5G Moto Mod and Snapdragon 635 chipset launched in USA

Motorola announced the launch of its latest smartphone Moto Z3 in USA at an event in Chicago just couple of days back (August 2nd, 2018). Moto Z3 is the new addition in the Z-series and very recently in June 2018, Moto Z3 Play was released. There will be no new additions to the Z-series this year as confirmed by Motorola.

Moto Z3 excels by becoming the world’s first 5G-upgradable smartphone with 5G Moto Mod using millimeter wave technology being first time applied to a smartphone. The 5G Moto Mod makes it possible to have 5G access and Moto Z3 follows in the footprint of the Moto Z series to have the Moto Mod. The 5G technology is capable to deliver up to 10 times the speed of present day’s wireless technology and there will be no buffering.

Motorola in partnership with Qualcomm has developed 5G Moto Mo and Verizon is the exclusive mobile network partner for providing 5G access and services. The key components driving 5G access with Moto Mod are Snapdragon X50 modem and millimeter wave technology.

Motorola has confirmed on its official page for USA that 5G Moto Mod will be sold separately and will be arriving early 2019 and 5G network coverage will cover select areas and then expand to other geographical zones. Moreover, Moto Z3 handsets with Verizon mobile carrier via 5G Moto Mod will be the first to get access to 5G Network and then Moto Z2 devices with Verizon will get the 5G access.

Moto Z3 Price in USA and availability:

Moto Z3 is priced at USD 480 (approx Rs.32,900). Motorola’s partnership with Verizon also continues on the sale front. The handset will be made available in Ceramic Black color exclusively at Verizon from August 16th, 2018, onwards. Also, there is a network-locked version of Moto Z3 and it is offered at a monthly payment of $20 for a period of 2 years.

Along with 5G access capability, the key highlights of Moto Z3 include: 6-inch full HD Super AMOLED with a near bezel-less display; All-day battery and turbocharging making sure you get half a day’s power in just 30 mins; and Dual depth-sensing smart cameras: dual 12 MP low light sensors, including one monochrome sensor, features including layers and colors adjustment, Cinemagraphs to animate moments, Google Lens to discover your surroundings with tools for text translation and object recognition.

Going further, key highlights also include Customization with respective Moto Mods for each function such as printing real polaroid photos from your phone made easy and immersive stereo sound feature to have DJ booth effect for your room.

Furthermore, some other key offerings of Moto Z3 are thin design with just 6.75 mm thickness, aluminum body, and 2.5D shaped Corning Gorilla Glass display with smooth rounded corners; water-repellent coating making sure the phone is protected from rain and water (moderate exposure, not designed to be submerged in water, not waterproof); Handy shortcuts along with moto actions to launch the camera, turning on flashlight with a simple gesture, and answer to notifications on moto display without unlocking your phone; secure and fast unlocking with fingerprint sensor located on the side for more ease, just takes less than a second; and Phone unlocking with facial recognition using front-facing camera.

Moto Z3 Specifications and Features:

Moto Z3 comes with 6.01-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display and screen resolution of 2160×1080 pixels. The smartphone has 18:9 aspect ratio and 79 % screen-to-body ratio. The display features include Moto Display and Night mode. The design elements include glass rear, 2.5D glass front with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, and polished aluminum frame.

The rear camera software excels by providing features such as Cinemagraphs, portrait/panorama/manual mode, true black and white, YouTube Live mode, text/landmark/object recognition by means of Google Lens, Text scanner, active photos, barcode and QR scanner, and business card reader. The rear camera video capabilities include video capture up to 4K Ultra HD at 30 fps, Time-lapse video, slow-motion video and face filters for video.

Moto Z3 also equips a 8 MP front-facing (selfie) camera with f/2.0 aperture, wide-angle 84 degree lens and screen-flash features. The front camera software provides features including Cinemagraph, portrait/group selfie/manual mode, YouTube Live mode, face filters and active photos. Moreover, the video capabilities include video capture of up to 1080 pixels at 30 fps, time-lapse video, slow-motion video and face filters for video.

Moto Z3 runs on Android 8.1 Oreo mobile operating system. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset with octa-core processor and processing speed up to 2.35 GHz drives Moto Z3. The Adreno 540 GPU with 850 MHz frequency pushes graphics crunching. While Moto Z3 supports RAM size of 4 GB, it equips an internal memory size of 64 GB, further expandable up to 2 TB via a micro-SD card.

Moto Z3 features a SIM slot that accepts nano SIM type. A 3000 mAh Li-ion non-removable battery with 24-hr battery life and 15W TurboPower charging that makes half a day’s power in half an hour possible. There is support for USB-C connector and wireless charging can be done with Moto Mod.

Regarding cellular technologies, Moto Z3 offers GSM, 3G, and 4G LTE. Moto Z3 supports 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac 2.4 GHz + 5 GHz, NFC, and Bluetooth 5.0. Regarding connectivity support, it supports USB-C port, 4 far-field mic system, USB-C to 3.5mm converter headphone jack.

On sensors front, Moto Z3 includes GPS (including A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou), Fingerprint reader (mounted on the side), Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Ambient light, Proximity, Compass and Ultrasonic sensors. Moto Z3 dimensions include 156.5 x 76.5 x 6.75 mm and weigh 156 g.
